Michael Estwanik, who founded the non-profit American Songbook Today thirty years ago, will present its fifth concert in their series “Standards & Showtunes” – A Tribute to Gershwin. It will take place on Sunday, July 23, at 630PM at the Ojai Valley Woman’s Club, 441 East Ojai Avenue. $15 CASH donation collected at door. Wine and beer available. Reservations highly suggested as their first four Tributes (Irving Berlin, Songs for Peace, Cole Porter, and Rodgers & Hart) were full. George Gershwin (music including Rhapsody in Blue and An American in Paris) and his brother, Ira (lyrics), wrote the scores to Porgy and Bess, Girl Crazy, Strike Up the Band, etc. Among their famous songs: Summertime, I Got Rhythm, Swanee, Someone to Watch Over Me, Embraceable You, Our Love Is Here to Stay, The Man I Love, It Ain’t Necessarily So, I’ve Got a Crush on You, Love Walked in, Liza, I Got Plenty O’ Nutttin,’ Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off, Nice Work If You Can Get It, They Can’t Take That Away from Me, But Not for Me, Somebody Loves Me, Fascinatin’ Rhythm, etc.
