California State University Channel Islands Professor of History Rainer F. Buschmann, Ph.D. will visit the Ojai Library at 1pm on Saturday, November 19, 2022, to deliver a talk titled “Primitive Art in Civilized Places: Oceanic Art between the West and the Pacific.” This program is part of the CSUCI Library Lecture Series, presented in collaboration with the Ventura County Library.

Over the past 100 years, Pacific Art has prominently influenced art movements in the West. Based on Professor and Chair of History at CSU Channel Islands Dr. Buchmann’s upcoming book Hoarding New Guinea: Contextualizing Colonial Collections for Post-Colonial Futures, this presentation will focus on this influence, while also elucidating how Pacific artifacts were utilized, manufactured, and collected.

This event is free and open to the public. For additional information, contact Ron Solórzano, Regional Librarian, at (805) 218-9146 or ron.solorzano@ventura.org.

The Ojai Library is located at 111 East Ojai Avenue in Ojai, CA. Hours of service are 10am to 8pm Monday through Thursday and 12pm to 5pm Friday through Sunday.
