OPAT to Bring The Songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein to Ojai in November
The Ojai Performing Arts Theater (OPAT) announces a celebration of the 80-year partnership of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, who many critics have called the greatest songwriters in American theater. The musical revue will be staged on November 4, 5, and 6 at Matilija Auditorium in Ojai. It is called, A Grand Night for Ojai: The Songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein.
Richard Camp, Artistic Director of the non-profit company, has assembled a team of seven outstanding musical artists and an orchestra led by music director Andy Street, formerly of “American Idol.” Singers include Scott White and Laura Dekkers, seen as Don Quixote de la Mancha and Dulcinea/Aldonza in OPAT’s 2019 production of “Man of La Mancha.”
Other cast members are Brooks Hope, Casey Robbins, Angelica Smith, Sophie Holt, and Talya Sindel. In addition, the children’s choir, The Pixies, will lend their support to the revue.
The show is all music, all the time, with very little dialogue in the evening. “The songs are outstanding and so well-known that they need no introduction,” Camp said. “The song list is lengthy including such songs as, O What a Beautiful Morning, I Can’t Say No, Honey Bun, Kansas City, This Nearly was Mine, Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair, If I Loved You, and many more.
“I wanted OPAT to produce a show that celebrates these two giants of musical theater while making us feel glad to be back attending live performances after the pandemic,” said Joan Kemper, Executive Producer at OPAT.
