Join us Sunday, April 30th for a live performance & broadcast with Joel Rafael! The best writing comes from writing what you know – and based on Joel Rafael’s life experiences and over 50 years of making music, he has a deep well from which to draw. He has chronicled his life and the world around him with passionate songwriting rooted in the folk tradition. Rafael began performing in showcases and small clubs around Southern California in the early 70s. In 1981, he toured with Jesse Colin Young, and released his debut album, Dharma Bums. Rafael won Kerrville’s new folk award in 1995 and gained national airplay with the seminal Joel Rafael Band. He composed and performed all original music for the LA Theatre Works production of The Grapes of Wrath in 2002 and toured the southwest with Joan Baez in 2003. No influence is more obvious in his work than that of Woody Guthrie, with whom he shares five co-writes, and Joel has been a featured performer at the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival for all 25 years.

Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist and producer bernie larsen has lived a charmed musical life for many years. He has recorded, toured, and produced an elite handful of artists most of which are Grammy Award recipients including Melissa Etheridge, Jackson Browne, Rickie Lee Jones, Lucinda Williams, and Public Enemy. He also spent six years as an original member of David Lindley’s legendary band El Rayo-X.

Alan Thornhill’s unpretentious nature could be misleading. You might think upon meeting him that he’s simply the modest legendary finish carpenter from the artist colony of Ojai, CA. That myth evaporates when he picks up a guitar and beautiful hands reveal what they were born to do. Long recognized as a notably brilliant player ( winner of the prestigious Telluride Fingerstyle Guitar Championship,) his distinctive sound has been featured on numerous recordings (Kate Wolfe, Chris Hillman, Hoyt Axton, The Rincon Ramblers and more.) While his melodic playing captivates audiences of all ages, from concert halls to festival stages, it is simply a stunning accompaniment to what is called by many “one of the most beautiful voices ever heard.” Alan’s a singer admired by his peers and beloved by devoted fans and mesmerized first timers.

The show begins at 4pm, and live audience tickets are $25. Broadcast tickets are “pay what you can” $10-$15. No refunds
