Join us Saturday, April 29th for a live performance & broadcast with Rick Shea & Tony Gilkyson! Cutting his teeth in the Southern California honky-tonks, San Bernardino-bred Rick Shea’s songs reflect the folk, country, rock and Mexican influences he grew up with. As a singer, songwriter and guitarist his work with Americana legends like Dave Alvin (Shea played on his Grammy-winning album), Chris Gaffney, Wanda Jackson and R.E.M among others; as well as his many excellent solo records, (including his latest, “Love & Desperation ****MOJO),” speaks for itself.
Born in Hollywood and raised in an environment of musicians, songwriter/guitarist Tony Gilkyson originally started recording as a boy with his father, Terry Gilkyson, a composer for Walt Disney and a prominent folksinger/songwriter in his own right. Artists he has played and recorded with include Bob Dylan, Dave Alvin, Alice Cooper, Kris Kristofferson, k.d. lang, Lone Justice, Ray Wiley Hubbard, Sam Phillips, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Peter Rowan, Larry Hosford, Mark Olsen, Shane MacGowan and X. He has produced recordings for Exene Cervenka, sister Eliza Gilkyson and Dances with Wolves author and poet Michael Blake. With Tom Waits, Tony co-produced Chuck E. Weiss’s albums Extremely Cool and Old Souls & Wolf Tickets, and in 2003, he produced Eleni Mandell’s acclaimed Country for True Lovers. He has also played guitar on numerous film soundtracks, including the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line, The Big Lebowski, Don’t Come Knockin’ and All the King’ s Men, with producer T Bone Burnett. tonygilkyson.com The show begins at 7pm and live audience tickets are $25.
