Ojai’s talented Gai Jones receives the Distinguished Merit Award by the American Association of Community Theatre

(Ojai, CA – June 6, 2018) One of the bright lights in Ojai theater, director Gai Jones, has been recognized for her service to community theater by the American Association of Community Theatre (AACT) organization. The award is presented to individuals and organizations in recognition of contributions made to promote and develop the highest standards for community theatre. The award ceremony will be in June at the aactWorldFest Festival in Venice, Florida.

Many in Ojai are familiar with Jones’ amazing director duties for plays and musicals, especially her dedicated work with children. She is directing “The Little Mermaid” at the Ojai Art Center Theater later this year as a total youth production.

“Involvement in Community Theater is much like riding a roller coaster,” said Jones, “full of highs and lows, ups and downs. Being with talented actors and technicians who create often without any reimbursement or compensation, who create for the joy of the process and seeing novices or experienced succeed is definitely among the highs.

“I can think of no other person in our community who is deserving of this Award,” said Tracey Williams Sutton, President of the Ojai Art Center Theater Branch. “Gai is a dedicated director, teacher, and mentor who has served the actors and students of our community with deep commitment for years. Her contribution towards our local theater has been remarkable; her dedicated service to all of us is deeply appreciated.”

A special award presentation in Ojai is being planned to honor Ms. Jones in the summer.
